The Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure has chosen Apple Valley Rd from Green Acres Dr to Connare Dr for the Traffic Calming Program. For more information on the measures shown, please see NDOT's Traffic Calming Toolbox. The complete plans can be viewed at the link in the Documents section at the bottom of this page.

Why we're asking

Residents in this neighborhood applied for the Traffic Calming Program with a goal of lowering traffic speeds on and making the street safer for people walking, biking, taking transit, and driving. NDOT is working with nearby residents to choose a traffic calming design and facilitate a voting process to approve or reject the plan.

What we've learned

We receive hundreds of applications for traffic calming every year. We chose this street for the Traffic Calming Program because our traffic study showed it scored highly when evaluated in five key categories:

  • Vehicular Speed (45%)
    • How fast are vehicles traveling along the street?
  • Volume (25%)
    • How many vehicles are traveling on the street each day?
  • Non-Driver Accommodations (15% )
    • Are there sidewalks along the segment and/or bikeways and transit service close by?
  • Vulnerable User Injury/Fatalities (10%)
    • Have there been any pedestrians or bicyclists injured or killed on the street in the past 10 years?
  • Trip Destinations (5%)
    • Is the street close to common trip destinations like parks, schools, libraries, and community centers?

How you can help

Residents can get involved by reviewing and sharing feedback on the traffic calming and bikeway design concept. As the design is finalized, NDOT engineers will incorporate community feedback in design decisions.
