Antioch Pike Tactical Urbanism and Open Streets
Antioch Pike Tactical Urbanism and Open Streets
The Antioch Pike Tactical Urbanism Project is a community-led effort facilitated by NDOT to reimagine a one-mile stretch of Antioch Pike from Nolensville Pike to McCall in South Nashville. This project seeks to address safety, mobility, and environmental concerns, creating a healthier, safer, and more livable corridor for residents and visitors. Tactical urbanism relies on community initiative to use temporary, low-cost tools to test out a new street design. It gives community members power to take the lead on envisioning a street that works for them. NDOT will consider long-term, permanent solutions based on the community-led process. This project is funded by grants from the State of Tennessee and the Bridgestone Foundation.
Volunteer Session 1: Antioch Pike Public Life Study
All participants must be prepared to walk at least 1 mile during this session.
This temporary tactical urbanism installation comes from over a year's worth of community engagement with the MNPS schools, Glencliff Neighborhood Association, and other community partners and neighbors along Antioch Pike. Thanks to the community feedback we've recieved ("Community engagement" tab), we worked with Bridgestone to repurpose tires and divert their path to the landfill. Based on NDOT traffic counts and concerns for more adequate pedestrian safety that works with the existing sidewalks, we were able to reduce Antioch Pike to one lane, creating a multi-use lane on either side of the pike. We anticipate parents will use this lane for loading during school hours, students can bike within the safer lane, and cars are further from the sidewalks, creating a safer walkway along the pike.
