Edgehill Avenue and Chestnut Street Complete Streets
The Edgehill Avenue and Chestnut Street Complete Streets originated in the WalknBike 2022-2024 work plan and will be funded and implemented by Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell’s Choose How You Move (CHYM) program, making practical, cost-effective investments that improve daily mobility, connect people to essential services, and make streets safer across Nashville. The Complete Streets projects will provide safe connections for people biking to local neighborhoods, transit stops, schools, and parks by adding protected bicycle lanes and reducing the speed of traffic. This Complete Street corridor extends from Edgehill Avenue at 21st Avenue South, along Chestnut Street, and to Wharf Avenue at Lafayette Street. The design plans for both corridors are in the final stages with construction on the Chestnut corridor to begin in late spring 2026, and Edgehill construction to follow.

NDOT has received and addressed some comments on previous versions of the design concepts. In response to community feedback, the Edgehill design now includes pick up/drop off improvements next to the University School of Nashville. The public will be able to review the 90% design concepts in spring 2026.
In addition to the Edgehill Complete Street, NDOT will make improvements to a connecting street, Hillside Avenue, from Olympic Street to Wedgewood Avenue. The improvements include installing a protected bike lane in both directions, improving transit stops throughout the corridor, improved corridor signage, and adjusting intersection alignments. Two-Way Cycletrack Memo
As part of the Edgehill Complete Streets design and engagement process, community members had proposed a two-way protected cycletrack on one side of the street as opposed to the planned one-way protected bike lanes on both sides of the street. The project technical team analyzed a two-way protected cycletrack and recommended the current design of one-way protected bike lanes as a safer, more intuitive, and equally comfortable option. The memo linked below explains the technical analysis for the decision to move forward with one-way protected bike lanes on both sides of the street:
