Maxwell Heights Diverter
Maxwell Heights Diverter
Nashville's Tactical Urbanism Program allows Nashvillians to install their own street projects to make Nashville’s roads safer and more accessible for everyone. Tactical urbanism is an action-oriented approach using temporary measures to quickly test solutions to roadway challenges in the public realm. They can be on public streets, road, alleys, sidewalks, or parking spaces.
The Maxwell Heights Neighborhood Association is sponsoring a temporary tactical urbanism diverter at N 9th St and Marina St. The diverter installation was Monday, October 5 and is scheduled for removal on Friday, October 30. The Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure is working with Maxwell Heights to evaluate the impacts of the temporary diverter on the number and speeds of vehicles, roadway safety, and quality of life in the neighborhood.
This survey will close at 11:59 PM on Friday, November 13.
What is a diverter?
According to the United States Federal Highway Administration, a diagonal diverter is a physical barrier placed diagonally across a four-legged intersection. The barrier creates two unconnected intersections. Traffic approaching the intersection is restricted to one receiving leg, rather than three. A strategically placed diagonal diverter can reduce traffic volume by preventing straight-through traffic movements at an intersection.
